MobileEdition Progress Report: New Features, Top Tiered Bloggers, Release Timeline
Today we’re making a few announcements in regards to MobileEdition.
Again, MobileEdition is a unique new tool for bloggers, it provides an easy way to get your blog on the App Store for iPhone and iPod touch. This ensures readers don’t have to make compromises, and can easily chose between the desktop experience (inside Safari) and a mobile-formatted experience (on the App Store).
First, MobileEdition has been a huge success already. We’ve already signed up the equivalent of over 1% of the current App Store lineup. We’re constantly getting new sign ups, and we encourage you to keep signing up.
When we announced MobileEdition, we said we were starting with WordPress as our first CMS. And, we said at the time that we would be expanding support to other systems in the near future. Today we’re adding support for a special type of system; the top-tiered blogger.
Using some advanced technology, we’re expanding MobileEdition to support top-tier bloggers on any platform. This system requires a lot of resources today, so we can’t yet make it available to everyone (but we are working on that). So, if your blog gets more than 100,000 viewers (human beings) tuning in per month, we’re ready to get your blog on the App Store… today. No waiting list required.
You can sign up for MobileEdition for Top Tiered Bloggers by clicking here…
And, for top-tiered bloggers, we’re going to have some additional features, giving you a customized App Store experience. We’ll be using this feedback to enhance the mainstream MobileEdition product as well.
The most frequently asked question about MobileEdition is “When will my blog appear on the App Store?” And, we can provide you with a bit of a timeframe for that today as well.
The first sites that will get the MobileEdition treatment, are MechaWorks sites. We made the decision awhile ago to give MechaWorks sites and blogs a clean MobileEdition experience. Meaning, what you see on the PhoneNews.com app (or the CentralGadget.com app, etc, etc) will be the same experience that your blog (big or small) can get on the App Store.
Rather than give short demos, we felt the best demo we could give of MobileEdition would be to put it into your hands with some real-world sites. Plus, it makes sure your experience with MobileEdition will be problem-free. This will all be finished, and in Apple’s hands within about a week.
After that, we have some pilot bloggers that we’re going to start getting online. That’s about two weeks away.
After that? We’ll be going down the wait list on a first come, first-served basis (over the next four to six weeks). We’ll be emailing you details on what we’ll need from you (within the next day or so), so you can be all ready to get on the App Store.
